I can actually do this

Why it works

Acting as the hub is the deep end of approach. You own the frame.

A good rep

Two strangers who didn't know each other are now talking, and you made it happen with one line about what they have in common.

If it goes sideways

The introduction lands flat. Give them one shared thing to talk about, then step back. Not every match takes.

How to play it

  1. 1

    Before

Rate your nerves from 1 (panicking) to 10 (at ease), and guess how it will go.

  2. 2

    Do it

Play the card. A no counts. A bail counts. Walking up to the moment is most of the rep.

  3. 3

    After

Rate your nerves again and say what actually happened. The gap between the two numbers is the workout.

The Approach suit · talking to strangers

Five ranks.

Too big for tonight? Start at rank 4, Group infiltration. This is the top of the suit.

  1. 1

    The weather report

Ask one stranger a simple logistical question ("which bar has the best band right now?") and hold eye contact through the full answer.

  2. 2

    Compliment drive-by

Three genuine, specific compliments to three different strangers. "That hat with that jacket is a choice, and it works."

  3. 3

    The 5-minute local

Keep a stranger conversation going for 5 full minutes. Get their name, their hometown, and one thing they are excited about.

  4. 4

    Group infiltration

Join a group of 3 or more people you don't know. Get introduced to everyone before you leave.

  5. 5

    The connector

Meet two separate strangers or groups, then introduce them to each other like you're hosting the bar.

One card tonight.

The worst case is a stranger saying no, and you'll live.
